What is Botox™?
Botox™ is a protein produced by a bacteria similar to penicillin.

How does Botox™ work?
Botox™ blocks the nerve impulses that trigger muscle contraction. It is this muscle contraction that leads to wrinkles. If the muscle contraction is blocked or prevented by using Botox™, the skin gains a smooth, relaxed appearance.

How is Botox™ adminstered?
Botox™ is given via small injections into the specific muscles of an area to be treated. It takes about two weeks to fully take effect.

The frown area between the eyes (the glabella)
Forehead

The effect will last four to six months.

What are the potential side effects of Botox™?
Headaches can occur for the first 12 hours after treatment.
There may be swelling and / or bruising at the site of injection.
Ptosis - drooping of the upper eyelid. This is rare and technique dependent.

Botox™ has been used for over 20 years in the medical field. There are over 2000 published trials in over 60 countries which indicate that it is safe. There have been no documented allergic reactions to Botox™, or any reported permanent side effects.
